Solaris Troubleshooting NIS : Disabling NIS so machine can boot when network is down
It is usual problem for server to hang in middle of the boot process, when they are configured for NIS and not able to connect to the server while booting. In this case, the first thing that needs to be done is to reconfig the system to be a standalone.

Procedure 1:
1. Boot to single user mode with ok> boot -s and then comment the “Domain name” entry in /etc/defaultdomain, now system boots all the way. Procedure 2: 1.
