v db_inst fsgen DISABLED 18874368 – CLEAN – –
v db_inst-d01 fsgen DISABLED 18874368 – CLEAN – my vol is disable still i can’t remove the disk frm rootdg ,pl advise
Is that volume disabled before vxunroot? if so please enable and try the command
alternatively, use the traditional process: ( please be cautious, and implement on your own risk)
before proceeding check that you have the original disk partition layout i.e. vtoc ” /etc/vx/reconfig.d/disk.d/vtoc””
— take the system down to failsafe mode/ or cdrom boot and mount the root disk to /avtoc /dev/rdsk/ s2
— modify the /etc/system to comment out “rootdev” and “set vxio ..” entries
— modify /etc/vfstab to use native disk partitions instead of root volumes
— remove root volumes – vxedit -rf rm
— remove the last disk with — vxdg rmdisk
— restore original vtoc to disk. with below command
/etc/vx/bin/vxedvtoc -f /etc/vx/reconfig.d/disk.d/
— boot to single user mode
thanks for your response .
Ok , let me explain , Solairs is mirrored on (svm )booting on native disk , on top of that VVM is installed they are not encap with solaris disk .
vxdisk list
DEVICE TYPE DISK GROUP STATUS
c0t0d0s2 sliced – – error (not VVM control )
c0t1d0s2 sliced – – error( not VVM control )
c1t0d0s2 sliced disk01 rootdg online
– – disk01-m rootdg removed was:c2t0d0s2
Ignore the error in the status for 1st two disk as those are not VVM control
This server is being veritasclustered with another node ,since rootdg is created at the time of installtion of VVM ,so i have only option left now to uninstall Vertitas Volume manager that will remove the rootdg .
1 will this affect the existing VCS between two node
2. Alternatevely ,is there option or commnd to remove rootdg or the last disk in rootdg ?
Hi Sekhar, Thanks for explaining the setup
>>1 will this affect the existing VCS between two node
if VCS using any of the VxVM volumes then removing VxVM will affect the VCS
>>> 2. Alternatevely ,is there option or commnd to remove rootdg or the last disk in rootdg ?
Case a. if you are using vxvm 3.5 and earlier versions, there you shouldn’t remove the rootdg because that is mandatory DG.
Case b. If you are using vxvm 4.0 and later versions, then simply deport the rootdg and run vxdiskunsetup against the rootdisk which will clear the both public and private regions of the disk.
Hi Ramdev,
I totally confused about how to mirror and un-mirror the root disk and rootmirror disks . can you provide a detailed steps how to mirror and unmirror root disks in veritas
Hi Prajwala, I understand your confusion. This post is to help troubleshooting the error “VxVM vxdg ERROR V-5-1-10127 associating disk-media rootdisk with c1t4d0s2: Disk public region is too small” during the rootdisk replacement. and that won’t happens regularly.
I will post the normal procedure little later.
hi ramdev., thanks for sfaring
Raju, it’s my pleasure.
