Solaris Troubleshooting : Restarting the Name Service Caching Daemon, nscd

To verify that nscd is running at any time, run:

# ps -ef | grep nscd ,  and The output should look like this:

# ps -ef | grep nscd
root  163 1 0   Sep 02       0:18 /usr/sbin/nscd
If no output is observed, nscd is
not running.

To start nscd:

For Solaris 10, as root:
# svcadm enable svc:/system/name-service-cache:default

For Solaris 9 and Earlier, as root:
# /usr/sbin/nscd

For Solaris 10, as root:
# svcadm restart svc:/system/name-service-cache:default

For Solaris 9 and Earlier, as root:
# pkill nscd
# /usr/sbin/nscd
