Solaris Troubleshooting : Physical disk to c#t#d# mapping by serial number

On most Sun systems you can obtain the disk serial numbers that correspond with c#t#d#’s with the following command:

iostat -nE

Example (a E450):

# iostat -nE

c0t0d0          Soft Errors: 0 Hard Errors: 0 Transport Errors: 0
Vendor: FUJITSU  Product: MAB3045S SUN4.2G Revision: 1705 Serial No: 9824M53867
Size: 4.29GB <4292075520 bytes>
Media Error: 0 Device Not Ready: 0 No Device: 0 Recoverable: 0
Illegal Request: 0 Predictive Failure Analysis: 0
c0t2d0          Soft Errors: 0 Hard Errors: 0 Transport Errors: 0
Vendor: FUJITSU  Product: MAG3182L SUN18G  Revision: 1111 Serial No: 0030582580
Size: 18.11GB <18110967808 bytes>
Media Error: 0 Device Not Ready: 0 No Device: 0 Recoverable: 0
Illegal Request: 0 Predictive Failure Analysis: 0
c0t3d0          Soft Errors: 0 Hard Errors: 0 Transport Errors: 0
Vendor: IBM      Product: DDYST1835SUN18G  Revision: S94N Serial No: 00401J9412
Size: 18.11GB <18110967808 bytes>
Media Error: 0 Device Not Ready: 0 No Device: 0 Recoverable: 0
Illegal Request: 0 Predictive Failure Analysis: 0
c1t2d0          Soft Errors: 0 Hard Errors: 4 Transport Errors: 0
Vendor: IBM      Product: DNES30917SUN9.0G Revision: SA50 Serial No: 99250S8940
Size: 9.06GB <9055065600 bytes>
Media Error: 0 Device Not Ready: 0 No Device: 4 Recoverable: 0
Illegal Request: 0 Predictive Failure Analysis: 0

Based on the above example, if you are attempting to replace c0t2d0 in the E450 you can now tell it is the one with 0030582580 on the barcode label.
